Yuba City is located in Sutter County in the Sacramento Valley. The town is located approximately 32 miles northwest of Roseville and approximately 39 miles north of Sacramento. Yuba City is often mentioned in conjunction with Marysville. These twin cities are situated in California's agriculturally rich Central Valley. Conveniently located, Yuba City is only a couple of hours from San Francisco and the Pacific Coast or skiing at Lake Tahoe.
Sutter county includes the beautiful Sutter Buttes, known as "The World's Smallest Mountain Range." Yuba City is the major center for shopping and business for the region. Agriculture, lumber and wood, food processing facilities and the Beale Air Force bases are major factors for the economy.
The vast majority of the region was included in a substantial land grant named "New Helvetia" which was given to John Sutter by the Spanish. Yuba City was established in 1849 on acreage acquired from John Sutter by Samuel Brannan, Henry Cheever and Pierson Reading. It was utilized as a supply center for the minors during the Gold Rush. When the Gold Rush ended settlers began to arrive in Yuba City due to the fertile soil and agriculture soon became a primary factor for the economy.
There is plenty to see and do in the Yuba City-Marysville area! There are many cultural festivals and events throughout the year, including the annual Bok Kai Festival celebrating Chinese New Year, Beckwourth Frontier Days--northern California's first living history festival established to honor James P. Beckwourth, an unsung hero of mixed ancestry who created a lower, safer passage across the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the mid-1800s.
The Yuba City-Marysville area is home to the California Prune Festival--one-third of California's plum acreage is in Yuba and Sutter counties along with the Annual Sikh Parade. Each September, Yuba City celebrates The Cultural Celebration, a dizzing celebration of ethnic traditions and diversity through food, arts and music. The festival is widely attended by people of all ages and all ethnicities. It offers a broad variety of tantalizing, ethnic foods, vendors displaying unique arts, crafts and clothing from around the world, and the best music, dance and entertainment you'll find anywhere in the North Valley.
For recreation, Yuba City is proud to offer three beautiful Community Parks: Sam Brannan Park, Blackburn-Talley Sports Complex, The Blackburn-Talley Sports Complex is home to approximately 175 Men's, Women's, Coed and Senior Slow Pitch Softball teams that play in Spring, Summer and Fall leagues. Blackburn-Talley is host to numerous weekend tournaments throughout the year, including sanctioned tournaments and local recreational tournaments. Gauche Aquatics Park features a 10,000 square foot building along with a ten-lap competitive swimming pool; a pool that goes from zero to three feet with a "spray ground" and a 25 foot state-of-the-art water slide. In addition, the city has thirteen neighborhood parks, with unstructured open areas for activities such as soccer or frisbee and structured children's play equipment.
