Plumas Lake, an inncorporarated area, is a master-planned suburb of Sacramento. The community is located along Highway 99/70; approximately 30 miles north of Sacramento, and 10 miles south of Marysville. Construction of homes began early in 2003, and at project completion, Plumas Lake is projected to have roughly 12,000 homes and 36,000 residents.

There are a number of new-home builders serving the area, including Ryland, Lennar, KB Home, K. Hovnanian Homes, Homes by Towne, Lakemont homes, Matthew Homes and D.R. Horton.

The southern part of Plumas Lake is served by the Plumas Elementary School District, serving students between K-8th grade; and the Wheatland Union High School District, for grades 9-12. The northern part of the community is served by the Marysville Joint Unified School District. Plumas Lake is served by the Linda Fire Protection District and the Olivehurst Public Utility District.

Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the course of the Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club. This semi-private facility is open to the public and has twice been rated as a "Top 100 Public Golf Course in America" by Golf Digest Magazine. The course hosts many golf tournaments throughout the year, including three NCGA Point Events; the Plumas Lake Amateur in May; the Plumas Lake Best Ball in August; and the Pepsi Cola Best Ball in October.
