Florin is a census designated place located within the city limits of Sacramento. According to the 2000 census, Florin has a population of more than 27,000 residents. The area covers about 6 square miles. The area is approximately 4 miles from Elk Grove, 6 miles from Sacramento, and 9 miles from Rancho Cordova.

School-aged children who reside in the Florin district attend the schools of the Elk Grove Unified School District. Elementary students attend Sierra Enterprise school; while Secondary students attend James Rutter Middle School or Florin High School.

Recently, the new Florin Town Centre was contructed at the site of the old Florin Mall. This open-air shopping center is located at the northwest corner of Florin Road and Stockton Boulevard. This new shopping destination is anchored by Mervyn's, Sears, a Wal-Mart and a 24 Hour Fitness.
