Nestled in the foothills of the Sierras, El Dorado Hills, often referred to as the gateway to El Dorado County, is a picturesque mountain community. The higher ridges through the community offer a spectacular view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With elevations ranging from 200 feet to over 10,800 feet, there is tremendous diversity in the landscape and much to discover in surrounding El Dorado County.

El Dorado Hills consists of a residential family-centered community that offers a wide variety of shops, services, entertainment and restaurants. High per capita income along with low crime rates and award-winning schools attracts many new families to this vibrant and desirable destination. The name "El Dorado" translates as a land of golden opportunity.

The modern history of El Dorado Hills dates back to the early 1960s when original developer Alan Lindsey began its development as a master planned community. El Dorado Hills was envisioned as a large-scale master-planned community which would emphasize open space between neighborhoods and opportunity for outdoor recreation.  Between the late 60's and mid 1990's growth occurred at a moderate pace as new families relocated from Sacramento, Southern California and the Bay Area.

By the 1990 census, El Dorado Hills had an estimated population of 6,395 residents. Growth slowed during the early part of the 1990's, but resumed at a staggering pace by the mid 1990's. In 1995, the Parker Development Company acquired 3,500 acres along the eastern boundary of El Dorado Hills to create Serrano, one of the largest master planned communities in Northern California. In the last several years, this area has seen great progress in business investments and employment opportunities.

El Dorado Hills is an active community with many parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities. Outdoor activities in the area include biking and walking trails, water sports at Folsom Lake along with seventy-seven miles of picturesque shoreline.

In addition to Folsom Lake, the nearby American River offers whitewater rafting, camping and fishing. El Dorado County is the heart of the most diversified recreational area in California, with approximately one million acres of national forest land. The greater El Dorado County area provides ten major reservoirs and has 11,640 acres of lakes. There are over 575 miles of rivers and streams that provide habitat for over twenty known species of fish.

For vineyard enthusiasts, El Dorado Hills offers an array of delightful wineries that have become famous in El Dorado County. Nearby Apple Hill, a charming community of local farms, fruit orchards, breweries, bake and craft shops, is a family tradition for most El Dorado Hills residents.

In accordance with the diverse lifestyle options in El Dorado Hills there is also a wide array of homes ranging from charming country manors on acreage to contemporary mansions in master planned communities.
